I heard Killing Me Softly yesterday. I think I first heard it in 1973 sung by the daughter of one of my parents friends - probably in Panama City, Florida - alternately I heard Roberta Flack first. In either case, it made an impression - I think because of the spooky factor: who was this "young boy" and how did he know so much about a stranger?
classroom and Timberlane Primary, the inside of our black Chevy Nova, the look of the buildings at FSU... Listening to it now I can hear something I didn't really hear back then too, some backing singers (not credited - also Flack?), far away in the mix and with an unnatural, almost ghostly level of reverb.
